Trust The Body’s Crying Need For Rest

“Our hearts are restless till they find rest in you, O God.”
-St. Augustine

Some thoughtful words on life and our crying need for rest. These are necessary words. So many are telling me that they are tired, stressed, exhausted, empty.

“Life, conceived in winter and born in spring, flourishes in summer before falling back into itself in autumn. Summer remains the most down-to-earth, the least metaphysical of seasons. It calls us to walk the earth simply and attentively – an act that becomes a miracle every time we do it.  To put one’s feet knowingly and softly to the ground is, paradoxically, to walk the stars. The spiritual traditions remind us that the earthy and nameable become a path to the divine and unnamable. Summer is the time to learn the body’s wisdom, to let the senses over-rule autocratic habits of mind. It is the time to trust the body’s crying need for rest. The rhythm of life demands rest. Summer is the Sabbath of the year.”
-From All the Days of My Life by Marv and Nancy Hiles

With you in awakening to who we are in God and to who God is in us.

“If I penetrate to the depths of my own existence and my own present reality, the indefinable am that is myself in its deepest roots, then through this deep center, I pass into the infinite I am which is the very Name of the Almighty.”
-Thomas Merton
