Good Morning and warm, warm wishes to you all. This winter is severe and brings to mind the words of Albert Camus.
“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.”
What are you learning in the school of life this winter?
There are the great questions that invite us to explore our relationships with self, God, others, and nature.
“Know Thyself” was written on the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi.
“Who am I?”
“Who is God?
“Why am I here?”
“What am I to do with my life?”
I can recall being on a retreat years ago at the Shalom Mountain Retreat and Study Center. In dyads we went off to private rooms one person lying on the floor with a blindfold over the eyes, the other person asking, “Robert, who are you?” And I would utter a response which would be written down and then the question was asked slowly again and again: “Robert, who are you?” And slowly and gently the process called “Fair Witness” continued and the responses kept coming from a deeper and previously unknown place within me. Taking off the blindfold and reading the written words that had come from my own being, I was astonished. There are deeper places within each one of us that await our recognition.
‘Know Thyself’ – there is so much more for us to know about ourselves.
We do not have to settle for life on the flatlands.
“[your name], who are you?”
“[your name], who are you?”
“[your name], who are you?”
“[your name], who are you?”
“[your name], who are you?”
Continue the process, going down to the depths of your own being – discovering your nature and your name. Rachel Naomi Remen writes: “People who have sought healing everywhere else are often afraid to look within, afraid to find, at depth, someone insignificant or even unworthy. Yes, this is rarely the case. The soul is our birthright. At depth, everyone is beautiful. Often it is the discovery of the ‘spot of grace’ that heralds the beginning of our deepest healing.”
Allow the music, words and images to flow through you opening inner spaces within you – new depths of being.
Know that you are loved – let your heart take courage.
